The Super Bowl isn’t the time to pull out a fancy wine or a 12% ABV stout. Game day is made for an old reliable : your go-to session beer. You’ll want your home to mimic the excitement of the stadium, but without the long bathroom lines, overpriced food, and a better beer selection.
The Pairing
Super Bowl 52’s happy pairings pick is Dogfish Head’s SeaQuench Ale. As a Jet’s fan the briny gose pairs perfectly with my salty attitude while seeing Tom Brady head to the Super Bowl for the eighth time. New England, I get it, he’s your man whose won you five Super Bowl wins. For me, I feel the same way about Brady that Turtle from Entourage did. I’ll probably never have the character arc where we golf together and I decide he’s actually cool though.
Past the gose’s saltiness, the citrus flavors add to the thirst quenching pucker. We’re all gonna need a light and refreshing beer to wash down the multitude of snacks, appetizers, and desserts that will be gracing our coffee tables.
If you want to get really excited like one of my friends was for Super Bowl 51, keep a cooler next to your couch filled with your beer. The only time you’ll need to get up is to relieve yourself. I find this tip extra useful as I was raised to watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and have since converted to a football fan – meaning bathroom timing is crucial.
So get those babies ice cold, rely on some easy to prepare game food, and get that waistline ready to expand for one of the most American holidays to ever exist : SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!
From the Brewery
SeaQuench Ale is a session sour mash-up of a crisp Kolsch, a salty Gose, and a tart Berliner Weiss brewed in sequence with black limes, sour lime juice and sea salt to make this the most thirst-quenching beer Dogfish Head has ever brewed.
